Day 7 - The Role of Doubt in Faith
Scripture: James 1:6 - "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."
Reflection: Doubt can destabilize our faith. While it’s natural to have doubts, we must not let them control us. Trusting in God’s wisdom and power is crucial for a stable faith.
Application: Reflect on a doubt you are struggling with. Bring it to God in prayer and ask for His help in overcoming it.
Prayer: Lord, help me overcome my doubts and strengthen my faith. Let my trust in You grow stronger each day, anchoring me in Your truth. Amen.
Let’s talk about doubt for a second. Doubt gets a bad rap, often painted as the arch-nemesis of faith. But here’s a twist: doubt isn’t the opposite of faith; it’s an element of faith. You heard that right. Just like any relationship, our relationship with God involves moments of uncertainty, questions, and yes, doubts. These aren’t faith-killers; they’re faith-builders. They push us to seek, to knock, to ask tough questions. And like Peter, what matters isn’t that we never doubt; it’s that we know who to turn to when doubts come knocking.
When Peter started sinking, it wasn’t his doubt that defined that moment; it was his call for help. "Lord, save me!" That’s all it took. Three words that turned a sinking situation into a saving grace. Jesus didn’t hesitate, didn’t lecture him first about his lack of faith. He reached out and pulled Peter up. That’s the kind of response we can expect from God. His faithfulness to us doesn’t waver, even when ours does. He’s not up there with a scorecard marking our doubts; He’s in the storm with us, ready to catch us, ready to help us find solid ground again.
